Mosaic Door Stop

I love Mosaics and recently a blogger I adore Shasta over an the In The Old Road  did a gorgeous mosaic with a birdhouse ( I still want to do that one, it's so adorable) and she got me thinking...I need a door stop for our small extra bedroom to keep the door open so the air can flow.. I've been using a pillow and that looks real nice.. NOT! LOL  So, yesterday I was scrounging out in the garage and found this nice brick... hmmmm, I says to myself... this could be a crafty thing to  have... meself says back... dontcha know I think yer right... so we both took the brick.. So I took the brick upstairs and cleaned it up good and put it outside to dry really well in the sun... and in the meantime I got out my glass and decided I'm make a heart on the brick and use it for the door stop...

Here's what I did.. got out my trusty glass tools... cutters, nippers etc. to shape the glass to fit the brick.

I tried the E6000 adhesive cautiously, I wasn't sure it would adhere but it worked great...
Drew a heart ( I can't draw as you can see.. it took several drafts! HA! I need help I'm telling you..lol
 Traced the heart
And little by little I cleaned the glass as I went ( to save time this way I only had to clean what I needed as my glass supply has been in the garage and is VERY dusty and dirty...)
Glued the glass in place, cutting it to fit as needed...
I traced it with Frog Tape so when I grouted it I would keep it all in line... Frog Tape is great for painting but it gets wet and just falls off of everything... next time for a job like this I'll go back to my good ole tried and true and trusty... DUCT TAPE!!   Duct tape is your friend...   =)
Next morning I mixed beige grout and grouted the heart on the brick..
Made sure I got into all the cracks and crevices...
Removed tape and sponged down the heart and shaped up the grout some... and whaaaa laaaaa
I have an adorable door stop with a lovely white heart in it... I could make another one just like this and have book ends... next stop a river rock and mosaic it for the flowers... You can do so much with mosaic's the skies really the limit .. I just love this... so what do you think, need a door stop ?
What designs would you like to see put on what surfaces ?  I can't wait to hear what your creative minds come up with...

xoxo,
Carri

  6. Carri, the brick turned out great! I would have never thought of taping off an area like that. You did good, girl! I think the heart shape is wonderful and you're braver than me working with glass like that. I can't wait to see what you do with a river rock...

  7. Thanks Shasta,
You inspired me to do something different with my glass. I love your birdhouse. I love working with glass.. and the more bizarre it is the more I seem to like it. I have just about every color glass you could want except reds, pinks.. so I was like... okay it'll be a white heart..HAHAHA! I'm going to have to find just the right rock.. it's got to have enough of a smooth surface to get my design on..Thanks so much for your comments and inspiration!

  11. Thanks Lisa and Welcome,
Honestly, I did that in about 30 minutes and mebbe another 15 minutes the next day to grout it... It really is something everyone can learn to do pretty easily. Wait til I start my video tutorials and you'll see how easy it is.. I promise!!! You'll be making one before you know it. Thanks so much for your comments and I hope you come back soon I love company...
